Pair o’ Ponderosas

Published on October 28, 2025 at 1:05 PM

Planning began before our new bikes were shipped. We knew we'd meet up between Salt Lake City and Sanger, Texas to ride our Ponderosas together.

The midway point is in the Santa Fe, NM vicinity, and we settled on a 70-mile overnighter loop around Jemez Springs. Climate data suggested October might be nice, and schedules finally aligned. What follows is a 13-min video that is intended to be more personal journal than entertainment.  If you have the time and enjoy beautiful mountain scenery, you might be amused.

The route looked great. I am going to have to make it out there sometime. Recommended tire clearance? Surprised by the freezing conditions!

It was spectacular. I’ll send you the route. Regarding tires, I was completely satisfied with my 2.25 Mezcals. But the route is almost entirely road or double track, so I think 45mm wouldn’t be too bad. I’ll bet you could do it with 35mm but that would be a bit harsh. If you go, get with me for a few more details.
